"The Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County (BGCFC) is very pleased to be associated with the WGC. With the support of WGC, BGCFC is able to provide impact programs to a minimum of 50 at-risk young girls between the ages of 6 -14. BGCFC provides one hour sessions of the program "SmartGirls" twice weekly in various topic areas of healthy life skills to include, but are not limited to, sexually transmitted diseases, alcoholism and drug dependencies, sexual abuse, poor self images, and stress among other risk factors. In addition, through monthly outreach programs in our participating schools and community events we provide presentations and educational materials to an additional 200 young girls in at-risk circumstances during the school year." Richard B. Glover, Area Director
"Through their grant program, The Women’s Giving Circle enables local organizations that help children and families to accomplish projects that would not otherwise be possible. With their support the Mental Health Association was able to complete the renovation of our Counseling Services program. The therapy rooms and waiting area had fallen into a state of terrible disrepair with broken furniture, marked up walls, stained ceiling tiles - it was not the place of hope we needed to help our clients heal. With new paint and new furniture and pictures on the wall, it is now a calming place of wellness where our clients can feel safe and serene. We are extremely grateful for the encouragement of the Women’s Giving Circle; their efforts have certainly made an impact on our community for years to come."
"We sincerely appreciate the grant from the Women’s Giving Circle to the Seton Center Inc.’s "Jump Start Your Job Search" program. This grant will allow us to launch a follow-up mentoring component to our half-day program. This means that in addition to giving women the motivation, information and clothing they need to get a job or get a better job at our half day event, we will also provide follow-up guidance and encouragement. We will have 15 - 20 professional women in the community receiving mentoring training, and then providing this valuable follow-up. This can make all of the difference in keeping Jump Start participants motivated and therefore successful!"
"Relationships are the key to the family and to the community. The relationship that the Women's Giving Circle has established with Families Plus! has allowed Famlies Plus! to help women and children strengthen their relationships to each other and to move forward with their lives. A nice side benefit, this past year, has been the partnership Families Plus! has developed with Head Start and with their staff - another relationship!"
"Give until you’ve feel like you’ve made a difference in someone’s life"
"On behalf of the Board of Directors, volunteers, staff and especially the patients of Mission of Mercy, thank you to the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County for its support of Mission of Mercy. The Women’s Giving Circle is a key partner in easing the burden of women and children in our community who are unable to afford needed health care. Your support helps women and their families improve the quality of their lives - by keeping children in school, employees at work and families free from substantial medical debt so that they can pay their bills and remain productive members of their community. The 2007 grant award will assist Mission of Mercy in treating 275 women and children at 850 free patient visits, and provide them with 2,075 free prescriptions and 225 free dental procedures. Thank you so very much for your support."
"The year 2007 was wonderfully rewarding from a grant funding perspective. Working through a dedicated grants committee, we identified existing Frederick County non-profit agencies whose missions are closely aligned with that of the Women’s Giving Circle in supporting programs and services to help foster and maintain self sufficiency for women who are economically disadvantaged.. The focus for our first year grants was three-fold: emergency needs, pilot programs to benefit women, and capital purchases for organizations that provide services for women. The resulting grant applications led to an inaugural year of awarding 14 project grants with the full endorsement of the entire WGC membership. There is a unique quality to women’s giving. As women, we are grounded in care giving and sharing. Through these grants we are women connecting with other women who have real human needs. By making grants to existing Frederick County organizations already set up with structure to meet those needs, the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County is better able to ensure a larger impact of reaching those in need."
"We're honored that you've chosen us as one of your first recipients. It means a great deal to us that you believe in what we do. You all are doing a marvelous thing with the Giving Circle. It's truly empowering for everyone: the charities, the people we serve, and, of course, all your donors! It just goes to show, as Margaret Mead pointed out, what a small group of concerned citizens can do."
"Giving circles appeal to a wide variety of people because they help you get more from your giving more impact and also more say in how your money is spent," says Buffy Beaudoin-Schwartz, communications director at the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers and a founding donor of the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County and the B’MORE Fund in Baltimore. "Giving circles are encouraging the growth of a new generation of engaged donors, as evidenced by the fast and thoughtful development of the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County this past year" she said. "Frederick County will forever be enhanced by the WGC, from the lasting impact on the donors leveraging their dollars for change, as well as the benefit to the nonprofits receiving yearly grants and additional exposure."
"What a tremendous opportunity it is for Heartly House, serving thousands of female victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence here in Frederick County, to share our work and our goals with the members of the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County, and to then have that work continued through the support of the Circle. There is something about women supporting women that adds to the power of that gift, confirming that we are all working together.
"Hope Alive is so very grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Women’s Giving Circle. It’s exciting to see the positive impact this group is already making on our community."
"The people who have become members of The Women’s Giving Circle are empowered by their desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women. We can make a bigger impact as a united group."
